About Us: Programming

[Return to About Us]

Bronx Children’s Museum’s core values are:

  • Museums inspire and engage children
  • Children learn through play
  • Parents/caregivers play a critical role in supporting their children's learning
  • Learning can take place everywhere
  • Children and communities grow together

Bronx Children’s Museum’s overall literacy-based programming priorities are:

  • Early childhood education: to allow children to develop a love of learning and reading
  • Arts and sciences: to inspire creative and analytical thinking skills for life-long learning
  • The environment – greening and sustainability: to provide a blueprint for a family's physical and environmental well being
  • Exploration of one’s community and world: to give children awareness, understanding and context for the diverse society they are part of
  • Parent involvement: to help parents/caregivers become active learning partners in their child’s education

These priorities will be reflected through classes, workshops, exhibits and Museum-sponsored performances and festivals.  Programs and exhibits will be designed to address the multiple ways children learn and to help parents understand and support their children’s development.

The Museum will offer early literacy programs to Bronx families via community-based organizations, such as local library branches, homeless shelters, schools and day care centers. These programs will engage caregivers and children in storytelling, art, music and language-based activities that promote education and prepare children for school and life-long learning, as well as encourage caregivers to nurture their child’s educational goals.
